Welcome to Santiago Runners Club

History

The Santiago Runners Club was started by a group of friends in 1991 after their first participation in the New York Marathon in 1990 in which 17 Chileans participated. This small group of runners was united in their love of running and competing in long distance races. The club was found in the Vitacura municipality (part of the greater Santiago, Chile community) as a non-profit organization with the objectives to plan for their memberships running events, trips and various activities related to their mutual passion for running.

Among their founders and actual membership are distinguished and prominent professionals, businessmen, executives, and athletes, some of which are well known internationally.

The Club has well over a 200 members that have the common bond of running between them. They subscribe to a Declaration of Principals based on honesty and gentlemanly behavior. Their membership is committed to respect other competitors, respect the integrity of the race courses, to encourage the love and propagation of running, and gentlemanlike behavior.

In addition to running, the Santiago Runners Club ( S.R.C.) has organized mountain climbing events. Among these successful climbs are the prominent Chilean mountain peaks of El Plomo and Aconcagua and the hills overlooking the municipality of Providencia in Santiago, Chile.

After the formation of the S.R.C., the Club actively participated in creation of the first 10K organized races in Vitacura. The S.R.C was responsible for creating a running friendly atmosphere in the streets of Santiago and surrounding municipalities and, without a doubt, they were instrumental in elevating the image of the marathon in Santiago, and throughout Chile

The S.R.C. has actively participated in the foot-racing calendar events, and has organized their own running events. They have made the marathon a respected and known sport throughout Chile. Their members have participated in national and international marathons throughout the world. Among these are New, York, Boston, Chicago, Twin Cities, Paris, Stockholm, London, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington Marine Corps Marathon, Buenos Aires, San Diego and Berlin, as well as many other marathons.

The S.R.C. is an official representative of the New York City Road Runners Club, the organizers of the traditional annual marathon of New York that takes place in November to benefit the Organization Against Cancer.
